Ontario announces a 4% base increase for mental health and addiction
May 16, 2025
The Ontario government has committed $303 million over the next three years to support community-based mental health and addictions services. This includes a 4% increase in operational funding, an investment that helps stabilize a sector facing record-high demand.
Each year, more than one million Ontarians experience a mental health or addictions challenge. This new funding means programs like crisis response, early psychosis intervention, assertive community treatment and case management can continue supporting individuals and families across the province. It also reinforces the essential role of community agencies in working alongside hospitals, first responders, and municipalities to address complex issues like homelessness and the opioid crisis.
“We are extremely pleased with the government’s recognition of the challenges faced by our sector as we support Ontarians with mental health and addictions challenges,” said Camille Quenneville, CEO, CMHA Ontario.
“This funding will allow our branches to focus on their clients’ recovery, some of whom are the most vulnerable people in society.”
“We look forward to continuing working with government and our sector partners in developing the continuum of care to address the mental health, addiction and homelessness crisis in our community.”
