Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a type of mental health disorder that can appear following a traumatic event in one’s life, or as a result of cumulative trauma. It can also affect persons vicariously as witnesses of distressful occurrences such as natural disasters, crimes, or major accidents.
PTSD is more prevalent among individuals in occupations with increased exposure to these types of events, such as first responders and armed forces personnel.
In addition however, unique workplace stress for others in high stress professions such as healthcare workers, crisis response, corrections, to name a few, can lead to Operational Stress Injuries as well, which includes PTSD.
